Showdown drama at the RB latrine
Wake up this morning and head to can for my bladder's morning constitutional when my oldest jumps up on my lap for his morning cuddle. We settle in, and the little guy saunters up an starts swatting at his brother's tail. Well, Rube wasn't having any of that, so he jumps down between my feet to find the Ween hunkered down, neck extended and staring. That puts Rube on the defensive, so the two of them glared at each other for what must have seemed like an eternity when finally, the great trucemaker arrived:

Well done, Yinglybert Slappedyback and Fishy Bob
[NOTE TO OGGER: Ze tire, it is done.]

Spent time at casa del Wad this eve, where we scarfed down Lincoln's carryout (a local chain that has the best sandwich-y type grub, and for cheap cheap cheap), drank beer and then trekked to the video game place for games that could possibly eliminate SoW's Godzilla obsession and Target for plants (for HIM, not me), then came back to scarf down Oreos and watch "Eddie Izzard: Dressed to Kill," of which I NEVER get tired. My God, the facial expressions! I was laughing hysterically, and Wad was like, "What is your problem?" Then he passed out asleep and I came home. The end.

As we were traipsing through Target looking at plants (and wireless phone connectors for me -- $60, man! The hell?), I filled him in on the rest of the great TOG debacle.

Can I just tell you …
how much I love the cable guy? Not only did he give me a new modem so my broadband won't act retarded, but he fixed my Thunderbird so that I can now receive message from both my accounts! Wheeee! Life as we know it is soooooo much easier! (And yes, darling, I know I could make folders in Webmail, but I have a system! A system, I tell you! And it's all fixed! Wheeeee! No more merely longing to hear Homestar Runner deliver my "eee-maaaaaaaaail!")

So tonight, I covered the Gary Centennial kick-off party at the Genesis Center, and you know, I always think that I should probably dress like a grown-up to these things, but I never do and end up feeling like a big schmuck. Tonight's ensemble? My PDP shirt, cropped jeans and Birks. No no, no drooling, por favor. I'm sure you could've handled the hotness. But anyway, nothing like getting called out in front of eleventy billion people by the Mayor of Gary when you look like you've just got done gardening. Hope that doesn't make the cable show. (He was making sure the Post was there.)

By the way
Guess who cancelled out on meeting with the detective Tuesday night?

Yeah, that's what I said: "Get out. Imagine my surprise." Just like that, too, and he laughed and agreed. Anyway, he rescheduled her for Monday at 4 p.m.; if she cancels again, he said he's just going to have to go out there and get her, then.

I ask you, does cancelling out on the detective sound like someone who's innocent? Seriously.

Not like I’m not already going to hell, anyway
Is it wrong that I felt absolutely no sympathy for Greta when, upon finding out her niece has lice, she went apeshit and on about how she was going to have to stay up all night to make sure all her clothes were washed!? And how, because they're all cold water washables, that her sister was going to have to pony up for new threads to replace the ones that shrink? And how she was going to have to call work (yeah, she's working now) and tell them she can't come in because she stayed up all night washing the nits out of all her earthly possesions? I don't know, it all seemed so dramatic when it didn't have to be.

It WAS going to be a nonstop day …
but then it became not, which is great, because now I'll have plenty of time to work on my Sunday centerpiece due tomorrow as well as my piece for Time Out Chicago, also due tomorrow.

Didn't tell you about that one, did I?

I'm doing a feature on, of all things, the local auto racing track, or where I spent my Saturday night. No, you won't see me wearing a Dick Trickle leather bomber -- a t-shirt, maybe, because "Dick Trickle," heh -- but I say that I do have a new appreciation for the sport now that I understand a bit better how it works. I'd explain it here, but that's kind of the point of my article. I'll post it after it runs. Oh oh oh oh! And Tara's going to be doing a feature on blogs coming up in September, and, as one of the few bloggers existing in NWI, she asked me to do a sidebar for it about why I blog. You know, because NWI is still just that behind on the whole technology thing.

Also, tonight is the night Cousin Crackhead's supposed to go to the station and "clear her name." (yawn) We'll see. Like I keep saying, I hope the detective is savvy enough to catch her, because she's never going to give it up on her own. B-Dubs and I talked about it when I saw him on the 4th, and he of course questioned me as to whether or not I was sure it was her, perhaps I might've been dreaming or something. And that's a perfectly valid point. It doesn't apply because I was wide awake when it all went down, but a valid point nonetheless.

Tiiiiiiiin RIM … busted
Yeah, so the front passenger tire that had broken belts in it? Blew on the highway Friday night. (No, no catastrophic explosion or anything, just a car that couldn't pick up speed.) Well, that's not bad part. The bad part is, the rim that I thought could be pounded back into shape is literally torn apart where I hit the pothole (and thus breaking the bands in the first place), so now, the garage has to find me a new rim.

Sigh.

Granted, my disaster isn't quite the magnitude of hers, but still ...

So yeah, my boyfriend Aaron Beavers …
he called yesterday around 5:15-ish -- he and the boys were getting ready to open for the Nuge (that's Ted Nugent, for those not in the know), and he just wanted to see what was up and oh, he hadn't seen the article I did on the band and Roger Clyne (which I posted below for y'all), so could I send it to him via e-mail? Why, of COURSE I could, and did. So then he totally invited me and the hotties to the show when they come back 'round these parts in September. Oh, and to keep in touch.

We're going to be GROUPIES, yo! I'm SO Penny Lane for this bitch. Squeeeeeeeee! And I already know which boob shirt you're wearing to the show, Snidgey.

Ahem. Anyway.

I've managed to hold my resolve and not shoot my mouth off back at TOG because honestly, all that will do is piss him off even more. But it's been real. hard. at times.

Artists’ rights forever. Also? Read more carefully, anonymous posters.
It seems there's a bit of confusion about my thoughts on removing the unauthorized skin. Guess I need to break this down for everyone.

1. First of all, I'm a free-lancer. I get all about unauthorized usage, and I'm a big proponent of copyright. (See here, here and here.)
2. That being said, it was a huge mistake on my part -- NOT Christina's, so back off on her -- to assume that listing a credit to the artist's work (which I had) would be acceptable. I should've have asked him for permission at least, commissioned work from him at most.
3. When Snidgey and I talked to Christina, she was under the impression that someone with damage against Bonafide contacted the artist.
4. I contacted the artist as soon as I found out he contacted Bonafide to extend my apologies and to see if we could work something out.
5. Annoyed that someone would play Bonafide like that, I posted Tuesday's entry with them in mind, NOT THE ARTIST. I also mistakenly used the word "author" when I meant "artist." I didn't go back and change it, though, because I figured anyone reading it would understand what I meant.
6. I was wrong, because the artist himself also misunderstood what I was saying.
7. I've since explained the situation to the artist -- who, I'd like to stress, has been extremely gracious and fair during this whole mess -- with the hope that he'll understand that I meant no damage with him, but with the people who were being underhanded toward Bonafide.

So there you go, y'all. And to you who called yourself "what?" and posted anonymously: Although I appreciate what you said, there's no reason you couldn't have contacted me with your concerns privately if you didn't want anyone to know who you are; after all, the artist did. That's why I deleted your post.

Must. stop. the. SCREAMING
Yet another reason why I should never have children: There are four boys playing basketball in the cul-de-sac, one of them a wee one of about three or four. One of the older ones either knocked him down or wouldn't let have the ball or whatever, so now, the little kid is wailing as if someone's beating him with a 2x4, and I'm like, "I'd LIKE to be the person beating him with the 2x4, because shut the hell UP already! Christ. I mean, if the little siren-like wails aren't bringing your momma out to you, get your ass off the grass and GO. TO. HER. How hard IS that!?!"

It is the job of a good person to be honest. To be self-aware. To deliberately explore the fault lines of your character and try desperately to not inflict suffering in this strange, ghost-ridden world of worked and fabricated objects. Sometimes the jobs of writer and good person coincide. But more often they don’t. There are way more writers in the world than there are good people.
